LACE

Lace is a standalone piece combining the art forms of hoop juggling and rolling.

This piece is an ode to patterns, both organic and self-created. It is a celebration of explicit femme-ness and delicacy in a vastly male dominated art form.

Historically created by a pair of female hands perhaps in solitude, lace is an intricate and elegant, repeating pattern defined together by both its negative and positive space. It is made up of many smaller motifs and interlocking designs that work together to create a larger whole. Lace is delicate–it requires vast time and care to create by hand, it snags easily. It can be unraveled.

This piece was woven with an exacting aesthetic vision brought forth with a focus on circular and spherical movement styles; repeating motifs and manipulations; and contrast of motion such as ebb and flow, and softness in sharp angles.

If I am the hands and the needle, the hoops are the thread. The audience and their visual memory are the frame, or pillow, that holds all of it together.
